WE REMEMBER SCOTT W CAHILL

I am honored to be a part of his project again. Please be sure to visit Project 2,996 to read about so many others that lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Scott W. Cahill

Scott Cahill of West Caldwell, NJ died on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center. Mr. Cahill was a Municipal bond broker with Cantor Fitzgerald.

Elizabeth Moore published in THE STAR-LEDGER the following amazing tribute to Scott. I’d like to share it here with you:

“Though Scott Cahill was more than 20 years older than his 9-year-old little brother, Patrick, that didn't stop them from being best pals.

The two West Caldwell brothers went skateboarding together and bicycle riding in their free time. Patrick followed in his brother's footsteps by attending Trinity Academy Elementary School in Caldwell.

Parents from the elementary school, along with clergy from the family's parish, St. Aloysius in Caldwell, have spent a lot of time recently at the Cahill home, a white house with an American flag flying in front.

Scott Cahill's family last saw him as he left home Sept. 11 to drive to the PATH train in Newark, where the 30-year-old municipal bond broker commuted to his job at Cantor Fitzgerald Securities on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center.

Though Scott usually commuted with his father, James, the elder Cahill took his own car that Tuesday to his job, located three blocks south of the Twin Towers on Vector Street. He and his wife tried several times to reach their son by telephone that morning, but were unsuccessful.

"He was friendly and outgoing and would always have a conversation with anybody," said Mr. Cahill's father.

The Cahill family will hold a memorial Mass for their son at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, at St. Aloysius Church.

Scott Cahill grew up in West Caldwell and played lacrosse as a youngster for a local club. He graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory High School and attended Wesley College in Delaware. He worked at Cantor Fitzgerald for five years. He also was certified as a Microsoft technician and had dreams of building his own computers one day, a hobby he worked on at home.

"He built a computer for me," his father said proudly, adding that theirs was a close-knit family. "He was always there to help his mother around the house or to show his brother the latest computer games. He was always available to draw the latest super-hero."

In July, Mr. Cahill and his family spent a week on a beach vacation in South Carolina where they swam, played golf and listened to the blues. His father recalled how much his son enjoyed playing golf. He played at local courses -- especially Spring Brook Mountain and the Francis A. Byrne Golf Course in West Orange. "We used to like to go whenever we could," his father said.

Mr. Cahill also was an avid skier and snowboarder, traveling to Germany, Canada, Vermont and Utah to ski, his family said.

Besides his father and brother, Mr. Cahill is also survived by his mother, Linda, and grandmother, Helen Hamm, all of West Caldwell.”

You will be remembered and we honor you today.
