10 years

Let me tell you a story about our wedding.

I have always loved this song I heard on a Joe Perham recording when I was younger. It's called "Daisy A Day."

I love it. As in seriously moves me, love it. As in cries ugly face crying tears, love it.

We were getting married at a beautiful Inn on a lake in Maine and I wanted this song played at my wedding. I even went so far as to write Joe Perham to ask him to sing this song at my wedding. He called and spoke with my father one morning (made my father's day as he love's Joe) and kindly turned me down since he would be kayaking in Alaska while I was getting married.

I tried to find the music for this song to see if our string quartet or guitarist could play it. No dice. Keep in mind this was 10 years ago. The internet was not the same handy dandy vat of information as it is today. Months of phone calls and other searches turned up empty.

I built my wedding around this song. Simple bouquets of daisies (white with yellow centers in case you wanted to know), beautiful muted daisy invitations.

Still no song.

I finally resigned myself to a Daisy a Day less wedding.

*SOB*

Fast forward to days before the wedding. We were in Maine and meeting with the owner of the Inn to plan the final details of our reception. (Chicken Acropolis and Beringer wines in case you wanted to know). As she paused for a moment to check in a guest, I mosied through the rustic great room (with the giant moose head over the stone fireplace) and what to my wandering eyes
did appear, but a sheet of music with Daisy a Day on it! I kid you not.

Right in the very Inn i would be getting married in.

This is not where the story ends though. I then asked the Innkeeper with tears of joy if we could borrow the music so that we could have the song played at our wedding.

She shocked us all.

Her husband wrote that song. HE WROTE IT. SERIOUSLY.

*Smacks self on forehead*

After months of trying to find the music to this song, it was painfully obviously how inept I was. Byt that's another story. Back to the long drawn out story I have laid out before you...

Her husband had passed away years before, but her current husband was learning it so that he could play it for her son at his wedding in the Fall. I begged and pleaded for dear Sturgis to play it at mine as well. He was nervous since it was new to him. He finally relented.

On a beautiful day full of other surprises, he sang Daisy A Day for me. Tears flowed. Rings exchanged and it was just perfect. I mean it.

The day ended with just about all of the people I love sitting on the beach watching an angels singing melodiously from the heavens sunset over the water... and then fireworks. As in real, honest to God, illegal in Maine fireworks (that were a complete surprise to me and a gift from a friend).

So. This year will be 10 years since this amazing day.

This is where I could insert some sappy sentiment about getting a daisy a day, but rather I'll end with a message to my husband.

After 10 years of marriage and 18 years of being obsessed with you, I love you. I've loved you longer than I've not.

Forever and a day.

Semper Fi.

Tomorrow...

Tomorrow is the day. Ten years since I was married.

Tomorrow is the day I will stand on that same dock with my husband, joined by my three beautiful little girls.

Tomorrow is the day I promise to love him and be committed to him as I have been the past 10 years of our marriage.

Tomorrow is the day I hold his hand and say, "I do, again"

Tomorrow is the day I tell my girls they were what made our love a family.

Tomorrow is the day my family gets married.

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. -Matthew 19:6

I have always told my girls they were my gifts. Julia was our Christmas gift, born a few days after Christmas. Anna was my birthday gift, born a few days after my birthday. Emma was Dan's birthday gift, born a few days after his birthday.

Looking for a quote for tomorrow's little "moment", I found this. This is what I will tell my girls, "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." ~Desmond Tutu

They are indeed our gifts.

I came across this one and loved it...

How could I forget...

Thanks K for reminding me about the buffalo episode!

We went to dinner at Bugaboo Steakhouse on K's last night in town. Dan got home late and so by the time we were eating it was fairly late for the Doughkids. They were a little more feisty than normal.

Em was getting fussy, so Dan took her for a little walk outside the building. Julia tagged along. That left K and Anna at the table with me.

Anna was not thrilled with having to eat some more of her mac and cheese. Just then the large buffalo (Mr. Bill) head on the wall near us began to talk. Anna asked what he was saying. My response...

"Oh my, he said, Anna Bella you need to eat your food. Or else I'll come down and bite your butt." (butt and poop jokes are big in our house. Yes, we're cool like that)

She looked at me. Then looked at the buffalo. I was a bit nervous that she was scared.

Apparently I had mistaken fear for deep reflection.

Finally... her response.

"but mom, he doesn't have legs"

She's a smart chick... but she ate every bite, just in case.

Anna

I guess I promised some funny Anna moments.

I'm nothing if not a woman of my word.

______________

The other day Anna walked in the room holding a 6 foot tall window pane thingy. I asked her where she got it. She walked me into the kitchen and showed me the now pane less door.

"Anna, you can't take those off, they need to stay on."

"Momma, I just touched it and then Poof, it was just a little magic and it came off. It was just a little magic. That's all"

______________

Anna and Julia were bickering in the car. Julia said something rude to Anna.

Anna's response, "Julia, knock it off or I'm kicking you out of the car"

______________

In the lake this weekend.

Anna says to me, "I'm swimming on the Earth."

"Yes, you are Anna."

"Someday you'll swim on the Earth, Mommy"

______________

After getting a big kiss from one my Dad's 130+ lb mastiffs (oh, by the way, they aren't even a year old yet!!)

"That dog is slobber-ific"

______________

"Hey mom, I want some lobster with my butter"

______________

"When I get ice cream, I'd like some poop on top. I like the poop sundae"

"Anna, that's not poop, that's hot fudge"

"If it looks like poop, it's poop."

______________

"mooooooooom, smell my pits. Smell em. Moooooom Smell my pits" (she just put some of Dan's anti-perspirant on)

______________

Put this one under "You did NOT just say that"

I was in my RE's office and we were discussing the things you discuss with an RE when you are NOT trying to have babies. Birth control.

She was apparently putting her stamp of approval on my choice of the Mirena IUD.

"That's a great choice. We don't want you on any hormones, and the hormones in the Mirena are localized and don't seem to effect your other issues. Besides, you'll probably only need one more before menopause."

"Wait!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell was that?

Did you just say *gasp* MENOPAUSE???

But I'm young.

I'm having babies.

Well, not now. And probably never again... but wha???"

She did.

I had a conversation with a doctor that involved my pending menopause.

Hol-eee shit. That makes me feel way old.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY old.

Yes I understand we're talking 10-15 years from now, but yikes. Way to make it seem right around the corner.

Harry Potter Update

Yes.

No pages read.

Last night I picked up Order of the Phoenix (Dan's reading it) and read a couple of pages. Man I love that book.

Then it hit me.

I don't want to read it. As long as I don't read it, it's still out there to read.

Apparently this is a problem with me. I'm not good with being "done". The same goes for my tubes. Yes, THOSE tubes. I'm done having children. I do not want another one. I really, really don't. When I get the phone calls from my RE every month saying that my blood test says I'm indeed not pregnant, I hold my breath waiting for that word. NOT. As soon as I hear it, whoooosh. Relief. Not even a tinge of disapointment.

So, you'd think I'd run out and get those tubes tied, or cut or both. If not me, you'd think I'd be sending Dan in for his own slice and dice, complete with the infamous bag of frozen peas for relief.

Yet, I can't do it. Why?

I want to know I CAN if I want to. I don't want CAN'T to figure into the equation. To go to a baseball metaphor... As Kirdy once told me, "I like knowing there is still one on deck."

Craziness, I know. Especially since I think finding out I'm pregnant would send me straight to the local crazy shack. (Edited in response to the question... theMirena IUD is the BC method we have chosen... but that's another post)

So, if you were tuning in for my thoughts on Potter and you were just forced to read about my womanly-ness. Sorry. At least I didn't talk about periods and stuff.

Oooops. I just did.

I know I need to suck it up and read it. I don't want to have it spoiled for me. I can't keep watching only Noggin and shielding my eyes each time I try and open my browser to check email.

I guess I want to know what happens, but I'm clinging to the fact that the unknown is still out there for a little bit longer. That excitement of reading the last book is still there.

Yes Mom, I'm a dork.

Totally stolen from that naked guy...

You know... Memphis Steve

1.You are not alone. You are walking in the woods with someone. Who is it?
MK

2. You are walking in the woods. You see an animal. What kind of animal is it?
A moose

3. What interaction takes place between you and the animal?
We look at each other and I scramble for my camera and then he walks away while I take many pictures of him with the lens cap still on

4. You walk deeper in the woods. You enter a clearing and before you is your dream house. Describe it?
Yellow colonial style farm house with a big wrap around porch. Red door.

5. Is your dream house surrounded by a fence?
Nope

6. You enter the house. You walk in to the dining room and see the dining room table. Whats on it? Daisies

7. You exit the house and a cup is on the ground, what kind is it?
A big plastic cup

8. What do you do with the cup?
Put it on the porch

9. You walk to the edge of the property where you find yourself standing at the edge of a body of water. What kind of body of water is it?
It's a pond/lake type of water

10. How will you cross the water?
In a kayak

STOP HERE. Don't continue reading until you have your answers.

Ready? OK. Start reading again.

Here's what it all means:

1. The person who you are walking in the woods with is the most important person in your life.
Ummmm ok. But you said woods and I was thinking of the person I often used to tread through the woods with. Also it was dark. Did it mention that it was dark or did I just assume it was dark. That's humorous, I spent a lot of time tripping around woods in the middle of the night. Damn boys camp.

2. The size of the animal is representative of your perception of the size of your problems in your life.
Nice... a moose. Maybe I should have said an elk? A whale??? something slightly larger. Geez

3. The severity of the interaction you have with the animal is representative of how you deal with your problems.
I watch them and then fail... nice

4. The size of your dream home is representative of the size of your ambition to solve your problems.
That's good. It was a pretty big house... but a moose sized problem??? I don't know.

5. A lack of a fence is indicative of an open personality. People are welcome at all times. The presence of a fence indicates a closed personality. You'd prefer people not drop by unannounced.
:)

6. If your answer did NOT include food, flowers, or people, then you are generally unhappy.

hmmm...

7. The durability of the material which the cup is made of is representative of the perceived durability of your relationship.

Plastic. I guess that makes sense

8. Your disposition of the cup is representative of your attitude.
I put it on the porch. To protect it.

9. The size of the body of water is representative of the size of your sexual desire.
double hmmm

10. How wet you get in crossing the water is indicative of the relative importance of your sex life. Not a toe in the water...

Ick

I just saw something disturbing.

Something that was intended to look like pubic hair.

On tv.

Here's the thing, pubic hair where it's supposed to be isn't exactly disgusting. Separate it from it's counterparts and put it somewhere it's not supposed to be and POOF an errant pubic hair becomes public enemy #1.

Yes. A couple of pubic hairs ruined bars of soap for me forever.

Ick

No spoilers here...

You'd actually have to read a page in the book to have a spoiler.

Yep, that's right. This HP dork hasn't read a single page.

Not one page.

We had too much fun up at the lake this weekend to even start.

Anna spent 8 hours in the lake yesterday, then fell asleep through dinner, then got back in for an hour. She's a little fish. Julia and Emma both also love the water. Em likes to be held by the arms, in front of you and then kick her feet and squeal.

Julia is still up at the lake with my parents for the week. She could barely wait for us to leave. Anna is lost without her, and cranky.

So, I'm patiently waiting for nap time and then it will be time for the book.

We Mugglefested...

We're home from Mugglefest... I'm about to head out and pick up my book.

We had a great time. It was super packed and too hot for comfort since the event was indoors. THe sets were great and the actors they hired to play characters did a great job staying in character. Gilderoy Lockhart was my favorite. He'd come up and ask, "would you care for my autograph? or perhaps a photo of me?" It was cute.

Julia made a snitch and had her pic taken in a Quidditch robe on a pitch.

We volunteered for two hours and saw lots of fun people. Julia was dressed up as Luna and she stood with Professor Trelawny at the entrance and welcomed people to Mugglefest. She also handed out The Daily Prophet.

Here are some links...

Helllooooo!

I am still here. Miss me?

My parents got in from Arizona last Thursday and headed up to the lake on Saturday. My good friend K arrived from Arizona on Wednesday and we had a wonderful time with her (I'm not sure that it was as much fun for her being around 3 crazy kids 24/7!).

Yes, I finally spent a weekend away from the girls. HAD A FREAKING BLAST. Thanks T for a wonderful weekend.

Have some funny Anna stories, and will hopefully have a minute tomorrow night to stop by and post pictures from Mugglefest. We're going to have a great time. I finished up the girls costumes today (Julia as Luna and Anna as a Ravenclaw student... Em will be just a random little thing in a cape (she was going to be an owl... but ugh. SHe won't care... I am going to be some sort of witch (don't need a costume!!). Even Dan will be dressing up since we'll be volunteering through out the night. Let's pray for nice weather!

Spend the weekend at the lake reading (I am SOOOO SOOOO excited)... and then we'll be back here for a couple days.

I just can't wait for vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Harry Potter.....

I did.

Last night at midnight.

I have to tell you, I loved it.

David Yates, you are awesome. This is how I saw Harry Potter all along. I'm so glad to hear he's on board for 6 and 7.

It was a fun experience. Julia went to bed really early last night. At 11pm I woke her up and she had no idea why, she's not a huge HP fan, but I thought she'd like this. We went to the theater and the line was wrapped around the theater. This wasn't the line for tickets, this was just the line to get in to the theater. There were a few people dressed up, but most of the Muggles in line were Muggle-ish.

We ran into Julia's Kindergarten teacher at the movie. I just love her.

SO... movie. Great. The score was wonderful... LOVED the music. I have a few small complaints about the movie, but overall this was by far the best.

Julia had a blast, wasn't scared at all. Today she woke up and told me, "mom, I had the best time last night. I now love Harry Potter. Those kids were so brave. I didn't know kids could do that."

I asked her what kids could do. Her reply, "Make a difference."

I think she gets it.

8 things about me...

Kirdy has tagged me and I'm nothing if not obedient... I do love the memes!

Here we go...

1. I have to start out with this because it's everywhere right now... but I love Harry Potter. I would say I'm a strong 6 or a low 7 on the obsessive scale. I love the books, I enjoy the hell out of the movies. I like the fan uproar about both. I don't have HP clothing or anything other than the books or movies. I do listen to Pottercast and Mugglecast. Tonight while watching the Secrets of Harry Potter... I actually knew who Steve Vanderark was before they through his creds on the screen.

2. I'm in the process of finally weaning Emma. I'm not sure I'm going to completely stop, but we're cutting down to 1-2 a day. I'm guessing with in a couple of weeks we'll be done. I have been nursing or pregnant for just about 7 years now. I nursed Julia for 20 months, Anna for 15 and Emma is just shy of 16 months.

3. I suffer from OCHD. I laughed when I first heard this. Hoarding? Wha? That's hilarious. Then I cried. The more I learned the more I was amazed. Wow. Soooo me. I am grateful to begin understanding it, and possibly free myself from what I have been dealing with for well over 20 years now. Gotta love acronyms. I have more... PCOS, ITP, PTSD, CD, GAD... geez thats depressing...

4. Mosquitos and black flies are my enemy. Oh and birds. The mosquitos and black flies love to bite me. I get huge welts from them. At night while I sleep I scratch and scratch, and wake up with scabs. Lovely right?? I have scars on my legs and arms from years of this process. I no likey birds and birds no likey me. I hit a bird on my bike once (on accident!!) and after that birds seemed to follow me. And poop on me. and attack me. Sea World is like hell for me. Those dive bombing birds scare the crap out of me.

5. I want to be a photographer. And a writer. And a late night radio dj. and a painter. and that's about it.

6. I love taking surveys, quizzes and doing memes like these.

I guess this will have to be continued since I'm too boring for even myself!

Sap

No, not of the corny, lovey dovey kind.

The falls out of pine tree kind.

The kind that sticks to every living thing and gives me a headache.

The kind that leaves giant dark splotches on my kids clothes.

The kind that sticks to their arms, legs and feet.

The kind that makes dirt stick to their arms, legs and feet.

The kind that then tracks dirt into house and grinds into the carpet.

The kind that has spurred the creation of Sap Flops.

The kind that comes only after spending hours running about under pine trees, swinging on a giant tree swing screaming with glee or resting under a shady bough.
